Is there a way to have the left column always show by default and the user can collapse it if they want? I'd rather them have access to that automatically then see the Members online column.

Take note...this option does work great, but only for desktop. If you choose to use it, if you view the site from a mobile phone, the menu will overlap the content of the wall on your site.

You need to edit file : \themes\goblue\plugins\default\theme\page\elements\sidebar.php
Change Line #6 to <div class="sidebar sidebar-open">
