Just a couple of suggestions for discussion.
We have added a News Feed link and Photo Editor icon next to the Friend request icon in the menu. The News Feed icon is more intuitive and convenient than using the side bar.
Pixidou is an open source AJAX photo editor that we've installed on our site. It is used regularly by members to rotate and trim images prior to posting. Not suggesting that this program be used, just the ability to do simple image editing on upload.

Thank you for suggestion we shall take a look into it in near future.
Due to the many requests in the past for additonal features and components we have decided to develope a premium version. Features like Hashtags, Videos, Polls, Events, Stories, Link Preview, etc included in it.
