I was able to accomplish this without too much trouble by making 1 simple database addition and a few changes to the OssnMessages and OssnChat components. If you're interested in implementing this on your OSSN-based site, send me an email at [removed]

a couple screenshots, first one shows the read receipts in the chat window, where the checkmark only shows up if/when the message has been read/viewed by the recipient.
the second screenshot shows the full "Messages" screen/page, where the conversation is shown in the center panel. if a message has been read by the recipient, the text "READ/SENT AT: ..." will appear. if the message has not yet been read, it will display only the time at which it was sent.
Due to the many requests in the past for additonal features and components we have decided to develope a premium version. Features like Hashtags, Videos, Polls, Events, Stories, Link Preview, etc included in it.
