I have a working OSSN site up and running and have purchased an SSL cert but users are having to enter https://www.topic-master.com rather then just type http://www.topic-master.com and have it automatically got the https URL
can you help

I suppose you mean when user visit your website without https it gives you error (as it giving to me now).
The issue is related to your apache configuration not with OSSN, you'll require to post it to some apache forum or look for some existing google pages.
