I noticed that the privacy setting always defaults to public when creating a post. Would be nice to be able to have the system remember what your last selection was.

Can be achieved to add a cookie related to post privacy type and then on each time page loads the last privacy option can be taken from that cookie.
Due to the many requests in the past for additonal features and components we have decided to develope a premium version. Features like Hashtags, Videos, Polls, Events, Stories, Link Preview, etc included in it.
