The current version requires at least PHP 7, but I only have PHP 5. 6.4. Is there an older version available that will work with this PHP version?
Note: I have numerous other sites running on my server that will break if I upgrade, so I'm limited to my current PHP version.

Thank you, I really appreciate the reply. I apologize for being a little bit of a newbie... can you tell me how I might get the installation package for that version? When I try to download it from GitHub, it seems like it's trying to install the current version.

PHP 5.x is outdated and alot of vulnerabilities in it.
For testing purpose you may look https://github.com/opensource-socialnetwork/opensource-socialnetwork/blob/91a4fb6ab6ad1a0d38c8d91f1eada69aea9a0f2e/installation/classes/OssnInstall.php#L101
It should work on php 5.6 but no support from our side.
