Question about the github version of ossn

Michieal ~ Coder ~ Posted in General Discussion 3 years ago

I noticed that there are a good bit of improvements on the GitHub site for OSSN. My question is, IF I merge that in with the premium version of 6.1 will it work? Or, will I break things and end up with a mess?
With working on my own components, I have realized just how easy it is to break the whole system, and I would like to avoid that if possible.

Thank you!

@W Highsmith ~ I see. Then, I will hold off on that, until I have a lot more free time, because that is going to be an endeavor.

Thank you.

I have done it many times in the last few months working with OSSN, but I dont just copy from github directly to my production site. I do it the hard way... I have a local development site under source control. I copy the files there. Source control picks up all the changes, and I go though them 1 by 1, rejecting or accepting each change.

Then I have to do it again for my theme. When i have a stable version I like, then I push it to my production site.

Its been a good exercise for me learn the architecture of the site, how to troubleshoot it, and what exactly is being changed.

Side question... is it better to make a post here for help with the errors that I am getting, or should I make a new ticket with OpenTeknik?

Ahhh okay. I understand.
I might make a dedicated Virtual Machine to test it out.
At the moment, I am still working out the kinks in the upgrade. :/

Thank you!

Dear Michieal
GitHub version is for development and you can not use it for production it have many errors that you may not see. , Besides premium social network is different you must not download dev version from github and update your production site. If you are curious you can try test it on your development machine, even you succeed there won't be support from openteknik in case any issue arises. So i suggest you can just play around with dev version but not to use for production.
