Data Directory installation problem

Darren B Posted in Beginning Developers 10 years ago

Hello,

I'm getting the error "Invalid data directoy or directory is not writeable". I wanted to confirm if the data directory that is entered into the installation field requires that you put the root directory ahead of it, or if it defaults to root? For example, if the site is http://www.mysite.com and you put /home/mysite/ossn_data in the data directory, then the data directory would be http://www.mysite.com/home/mysite/ossn_data/?

Thanks in advance

No,
if http://www.mysite.com points to /home/mysite in the file system
a secure location of ossn_data would be /home/ossn_data. Regardless of what url you're typing in: this location will be unaddressable and thus safe from manual lookups and attacks.

Make sure, that the ossn_data directory is owned by the webserver (often "www-data") and not by root or any other user.
