Does .htaccess get oiverwritten on upgrades?

No I wasn't meant for login details Mick, i was asking for OSSN upgrade. Thanks for telling. Yes .htaccess get overwritten only if it is different then the new one.
However if you modified the first line of it then it will get overwritten again because the upgrade checks the version of .htaccess file that is mentioned on first line of it.

If you mean the login details, no, it was upgraded several days ago.
The only change made today was commenting out the php.ini settings that are already in the .htaccess.
I'd like those moved to php.ini or keep them in the .htaccess but it gets overwritten.
